The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And the Scripture inscribed 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 And the lofty roof. 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth 11 and who indulged in false disputes against (God's revelations). 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 But God has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of scorching wind. 27 We had prayed to Him; He is Kind and All-merciful". 28
