The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 They do not expect any reward 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
