The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allah has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism or by following polytheism, etc. or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds). 10 TO [THIS] TRUTH gave the lie, in their overweening arrogance, [the tribe of] Thamud, 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
