We created man from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape; 26 and the jinn before (the human being) of smokeless fire. 27 And (remember) when thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am creating a mortal out of potter's clay of black mud altered, 28 "So, when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him, then fall (you) down prostrating yourselves unto him." 29 then the angels all prostrated themselves together. 30 But Satan did not; he refused to join those who prostrated themselves. 31 Said He, 'What ails thee, Iblis, that thou art not among those bowing?' 32 He said: I am not such that I should make obeisance to a mortal whom Thou hast created of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 and [My] rejection shall be thy due until the Day of Judgment!" 35 He said: my Lord! respite me then till the Day whereon they will be raised up. 36 (Allah) said: "Respite is granted thee 37 "Till the Day of the time appointed." 38 (satan) said: 'My Lord, for Your perverting me, I shall make (matters) in the earth seem most fair to them and I shall pervert all, 39 Except the chosen ones among Your creatures." 40 (Allah) said: "This is the Way which will lead straight to Me." 41 over My servants thou shalt have no authority, except those that follow thee, 42 Gehenna (Hell) will be the promise for all of them. 43 It hath seven gates, and each gate hath an appointed portion. 44
