Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In a high Garden. 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 raised couches, 13 well arranged goblets, 14 Cushions arranged, 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
