The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 arise, and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And pollution shun. 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked around, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
