The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
