The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise and give warning! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 And pollution shun. 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
