Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 and what prosperity they had rejoiced in! 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
