The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 The rebels' abode, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
