The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise and give warning! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 And pollution shun. 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
