They await just one Scream, which no one can avert. 15 And they say, "Our Lord, hasten for us our share [of the punishment] before the Day of Account" 16 (Muhammad), bear patiently what they say and recall Our servant, David, who had strong hands and who was most repentant. 17 Indeed We subjected the hills to say the praise with him, at night and at morn. 18 and the birds, too, in their flocks, and turn again and again to celebrating Allah's glory. 19 And We made his dominion strong and vouchsafed him wisdom and decisive speech. 20 ۞ Have you heard the story of the disputants who entered his chamber by climbing over the wall? 21 When they entered upon David, so he feared them – they said, “Do not fear! We are two disputants, one of whom has wronged the other, therefore judge fairly between us and do not judge unjustly – and show us the right way.” 22 “This is my brother; he has ninety nine ewes and I have one ewe; and he now says ‘Give that one also to me’ – and he is very demanding in speech.” 23 [Dawud (David)] said (immediately without listening to the opponent): "He has wronged you in demanding your ewe in addition to his ewes. And, verily, many partners oppress one another, except those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and they are few." And Dawud (David) guessed that We have tried him and he sought Forgiveness of his Lord, and he fell down prostrate and turned (to Allah) in repentance. ۩ 24 So We forgave him that; and indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return. 25 O Da-ud! verily We have appointed thee a vicegerent in the earth, so judge between mankind with truth, and follow not desire, lest it cause thee to err from the path of Allah. Verily those who err from the path of Allah - unto them shall be a severe torment, for they forgat the Day of Reckoning. 26
