[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 This has been happening all along. 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 139 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 140
