The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour of Doom is drawing near and the moon is rent asunder. 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 And deny, and follow their own vain desires; but every matter is determined at its time. 3 Messages deterring them from evil had come to them, 4 but the warnings have proved to have no effect on them. 5 Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that the Caller will call (them) to a terrible affair, 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 These disbelievers will say, "This is a hard day". 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 So he prayed to his Lord: "I am helpless, deliver me." 10 So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth. 11 We caused the earth to burst forth with springs so that the waters could come together for a predestined purpose. 12 We carried him, (Noah), on a vessel built with boards fixed together with nails, 13 which sailed on under Our supervision: a reward for him who had been shown ingratitude. 14 And We left the Ark as a Sign. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 15 So how did My punishment turn out, and My threats? 16 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 it swept the people away as though they were palm-trunks uprooted: 20 How was then My punishment and My commination! 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
