The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 amply provided you with flocks, and children, 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 this is nothing but a habit of the ancients: 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
