Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Enter among My servants 29 And enter into My garden. 30
