In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 Indeed during the day you have a long schedule of occupations. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the affluent ones who give the lie (to the Truth), and bear with them for a while. 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment, 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 the Day whose severity shall cause the heaven to split asunder? Allah's promise is ever bound to be fulfilled. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
