The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 And the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
