The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit in plenty 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
