The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 What is your opinion regarding him who forbids 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
Almighty God's Truth.
