The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 You will become three categories: 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 and banana trees, 29 and spreading shade 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit in plenty 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Lovers, friends, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
