Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In the high empyrean, 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 with a flowing spring, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 cushions ranged, 15 and well spread carpets. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
