The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is cleft asunder, 1 and obeys its Lord as it must, 2 And when the earth is spread out 3 And it unburdens itself of all that is in it, and becomes empty. 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 he who is given his record in his right hand 7 Will have an easy reckoning, 8 and he shall return to his people, joyfully, 9 And as to him who shall be given his book from behind his back 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 And shall enter a blazing Fire, and made to taste its burning. 12 He once lived among his family joyfully; 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 This is a fact. Their Lord is Well-Aware of (all that they do). 15 So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 and the moon, as it grows to its fullness: 18 That you shall most certainly enter one state after another. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 and when the Koran is recited to them that they do not prostrate! ۩ 21 But on the contrary the Unbelievers reject (it). 22 And Allah is most knowing of what they keep within themselves. 23 So give them the good news of a painful chastisement, 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
