The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
When the sun is overthrown, 1 And when the stars shall dart down, 2 And when the mountains are removed 3 when the ten-months pregnant camels shall be abandoned, 4 And when wild animals are herded together. 5 and when the seas are set on fire, 6 and when all human beings are coupled [with their deeds,] 7 when the buried female infant is asked 8 for what offence was she killed? 9 When the scrolls are laid open; 10 And when the heaven is torn away. 11 And when hell is lighted, 12 And when Paradise shall be brought near, 13 then shall a soul know what it has produced. 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 And by the planets that move swiftly and hide themselves, 16 The closing night, 17 and the morn as it softly breathes: 18 This is indeed the recitation of an honoured Noble Messenger. (Angel Jibreel – peace and blessings be upon him.) 19 with strength endowed, secure with Him who in almightiness is enthroned 20 [the word] of one to be heeded, and worthy of trust! 21 And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed; 22 And indeed he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] in the clear horizon (towards the east). 23 he is not grudging of the Unseen. 24 Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned. 25 Whither then go ye? 26 Verily this is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds: 27 for whosoever of you who would go straight; 28 but your wishing will not avail unless Allah, the Lord of the Universe, so wishes. 29
