Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
