The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ AlifLaamRa. Those are the verses of the Book, the Clear Koran. 1 A time will surely come when those who are bent on denying the truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God, 2 Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know! 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 No nation can anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 They say: 'You to whom the Remembrance is sent down, you are indeed mad. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us, if thou art of the truthful? 7 We send not the angels down save with judgment, and then they would not be respited. 8 As for the Admonition, indeed it is We Who have revealed it and it is indeed We Who are its guardians. 9 (O Muhammad), certainly We did send Messengers before you among the nations which have gone by. 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 We place in the hearts of sinners (disbelief). 12 who do not believe in it, although the way which those [evildoers] of olden times had to go has long been within their ken. 13 Even if We open a door in the heavens and they ascend through it in broad daylight, 14 They would say: Our sight is wrong - nay, but we are folk bewitched. 15

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
