We afflicted the people of Pharaoh with hard times and with poor harvest that they may heed. 130 Yet when good came their way they said: "It is our due;" but when misfortune befell them they put the omen down to Moses and those who were with him. But surely the omen was with God, yet most of them did not understand. 131 They said: "Whatsoever the sign you have brought to deceive us, we shall not believe in you." 132 So We sent upon them floods, locusts, lice, frogs, and blood. (All these were) clear signs, yet they were proud against them, for they were wicked people. 133 And when the punishment descended upon them, they said, "O Moses, invoke for us your Lord by what He has promised you. If you [can] remove the punishment from us, we will surely believe you, and we will send with you the Children of Israel." 134 Then whensoever We removed the plague from them, till a term which they were to reach, lo! they were breaking faith. 135 So We exacted retribution from them and drowned them in the sea, because they rejected Our signs and paid no heed to them; 136 We gave the suppressed people the blessed eastern and western regions as their inheritance. Thus, the promises of your Lord to the children of Israel all came true because of the patience which they exercised. He destroyed all the establishments of the Pharaoh and his people. 137 AND WE BROUGHT the children of Israel across the sea; and thereupon they came upon people who were devoted to the worship of some idols of theirs. Said [the children of Israel]: "O Moses, set up for us a god even as they have gods!" He replied: "Verily, you are people without any awareness [of right and wrong]! 138 "These people and their ways will surely be destroyed, for false is what they practise. 139 He said: What! shall I seek for you a god other than Allah while He has made you excel (all) created things? 140 And [recall, O Children of Israel], when We saved you from the people of Pharaoh, [who were] afflicting you with the worst torment - killing your sons and keeping your women alive. And in that was a great trial from your Lord. 141
