The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of a clear Book, the Quran. 1 Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah's will) in Islam. 2 Leave them that they may eat and enjoy themselves and (that) hope may beguile them, for they will soon know. 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 (The unbelievers have said), "You to whom the Quran has been revealed are insane. 6 Why do you not bring down the angels if what you say is true". 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 Surely We have revealed the Reminder and We will most surely be its guardian. 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 They do not believe in it, and indeed the example of the former people has already passed. 13 Yet even had We opened to them a gateway to heaven and they had ascended, on and on, up to it, 14 They would surely say: "Our eyes have been (as if) dazzled. Nay, we are a people bewitched." 15
