We have created the human being out of pure mud-moulded clay 26 And created the jinn before him, from smokeless fire. 27 When your Lord said to the angels: 'See, I am creating a mortal from clay of molded mud. 28 "So, when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him, then fall (you) down prostrating yourselves unto him." 29 So the angels made obeisance, all of them together, 30 Except Iblis. He refused to bow with the adorers. 31 "How is it, O Iblis," said (the Lord), "you did not join those who bowed in homage?" 32 He said: "It does not behove of me to prostrate myself before a human being whom You have created out of dry ringing clay wrought from black mud." 33 Allah said: then get thee forth therefrom; verily thou art one damned. 34 Upon thee shall rest the curse, till the Day of Doom.' 35 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are raised." 36 He said: So surely you are of the respited ones 37 till the Day the time whereof is known [to Me alone]." 38 He said, "My Lord, since You have let me go astray. I shall make the path of error seem alluring to them on the earth and shall mislead them all, 39 excepting those Thy servants among them that are devoted. 40 Allah said: "Here is the path that leads straight to Me. 41 “Indeed you do not have any power over My bondmen, except those wanderers who follow you.” (The devil is unsuccessful in tempting Allah’s chosen bondmen to commit sin.) 42 And indeed hell is the promise for all of them. 43 Unto it are seven portals; unto each portal is a portion of them assigned. 44
