Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Kaf-Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. 1 (This is) a recital of the Mercy of thy Lord to His servant Zakariya. 2 When he called to his Lord a private supplication. 3 Saying: My Lord! Lo! the bones of me wax feeble and my head is shining with grey hair, and I have never been unblest in prayer to Thee, my Lord. 4 I fear evil from my kinsmen after I am gone; and my wife is barren, so grant me an heir out of Your special grace, 5 Who should inherit me and inherit from the children of Yaqoub, and make him, my Lord, one in whom Thou art well pleased. 6 (Allah said) "O Zakariya (Zachariah)! Verily, We give you the glad tidings of a son, His name will be Yahya (John). We have given that name to none before (him)." 7 He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached infirm old age? 8 He answered: "So shall it be." Your Lord says: "It is easy for Me," and then added: "For beyond doubt, I created you earlier when you were nothing." 9 He said: My Lord! Appoint for me some token. He said: Thy token is that thou, with no bodily defect, shalt not speak unto mankind three nights. 10 Zachariah came out to his people from place of worship and inspired them to glorify the Lord both in the morning and evening. 11 (To his son came the command): "O Yahya! take hold of the Book with might": and We gave him Wisdom even as a youth, 12 as well as, by Our grace, [the gift of] compassion and purity; and he was [always] conscious of Us 13 and cherishing to his parents. Never was he insolent or rebellious. 14 And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive. 15
