Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf-Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. 1 A mention of the Mercy of your Lord to his worshiper Zachariah, 2 When he called out to his Sustainer in the secrecy of his heart, 3 He said: My Lord! surely my bones are weakened and my head flares with hoariness, and, my Lord! I have never been unsuccessful in my prayer to Thee: 4 And verily I fear my kindred after me, and my wife hath been barren; so bestow on me from before Thee an heir. 5 Who will be heir to me, and heir to the house of Jacob; and make him obedient to You, O Lord." 6 'O Zachariah, We give you good tidings of a son, and he shall be called John (Yahya); a name We have never given before' 7 He said: O my Lord! when shall I have a son, and my wife is barren, and I myself have reached indeed the extreme degree of old age? 8 Said He, 'So it shall be; thy Lord says, "Easy is that for Me, seeing that I created thee aforetime, when thou wast nothing."' 9 [Zechariah] said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three nights, [being] sound." 10 Zachariah came out to his people from place of worship and inspired them to glorify the Lord both in the morning and evening. 11 (We said): 'O John, hold fast to the Book', and We bestowed on him judgment while yet a child 12 And compassion from Our presence, and purity; and he was devout, 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not insolent, disobedient. 14 He was born and died in peace and will be brought back to life again in peace. 15
