Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Suad. 1 AN ACCOUNT of the grace which thy Sustainer bestowed upon His servant Zachariah: 2 Recall what time he cried unto his Lord with a cry secret. 3 "Lord, my bones have weakened and my head has turned hoary with age, but never, Lord, have I been disappointed in my prayer to you: 4 “And I fear my relatives after me and my wife is barren therefore bestow upon me from Yourself one who will take up my work.” 5 who will be my heir as well as an heir [to the dignity] of the House of Jacob; and make him, O my Sustainer, well-pleasing to Thee!" 6 O Zakariya! surely We give you good news of a boy whose name shall be Yahya: We have not made before anyone his equal. 7 He said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son, when my wife is barren and I have grown quite decrepit from old age?" 8 Answered [the angel]: "Thus it is; [but] thy Sustainer says, 'This is easy for Me - even as I have created thee aforetime out of nothing'". 9 [Zakariya (Zachariah)] said: "My Lord! Appoint for me a sign." He said: "Your sign is that you shall not speak unto mankind for three nights, though having no bodily defect." 10 Zachariah came out to his people from place of worship and inspired them to glorify the Lord both in the morning and evening. 11 To John We said, "Hold fast the Book," and while he was still a child, We bestowed upon him wisdom, 12 and tenderness [of heart] and purity. He was pious, 13 And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. 14 Peace on him the day he was born, and the day he dieth and the day he shall be raised alive! 15
