Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
KAF HA YA 'AIN SAD. 1 AN ACCOUNT of the grace which thy Sustainer bestowed upon His servant Zachariah: 2 When he called to his Lord a private supplication. 3 And said: "O my Lord, my bones decay, my head is white and hoary, yet in calling You, O Lord, I have never been deprived. 4 And surely I fear my cousins after me, and my wife is barren, therefore grant me from Thyself an heir, 5 “He being my successor and the heir of the Descendants of Yaqub (Jacob); and my Lord, make him a cherished* one.” (* Make him a Prophet among the Descendants of Israel.) 6 "O Zachariah," (it was) said, "We give you good news of a son by name of John.' To none have We attributed the name before." 7 "How can I have a son, O Lord" he said, "when my wife is barren and I am old and decrepit?" 8 [An angel] said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.' " 9 He said, "My Lord, grant me a sign!" He said, "Your sign will be that you will not speak to anyone for three successive days and nights, although sound in body." 10 Then Zachariah came forth from the shrine to his people and told them by signs to glorify the Lord morning and evening. 11 [Allah] said, "O John, take the Scripture with determination." And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy 12 and We also endowed him with tenderness and purity, and he was exceedingly pious 13 And kind to his parents, neither arrogant nor disobedient. 14 Peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he will die, and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
