And certainly We revealed to Musa, saying: Travel by night with My servants, then make for them a dry path in the sea, not fearing to be overtaken, nor being afraid. 77 Pharaoh pursued them with his hosts, but they were fully overwhelmed by the sea. 78 And Firaun led his people astray, and did not guide them. 79 O children of Israel! [Thus] We saved you from your enemy, and [then] We made a covenant with you on the right-hand slope of Mount Sinai, and repeatedly sent down manna and quails unto you, [saying,] 80 (Saying): Eat of the good things wherewith We have provided you, and transgress not in respect thereof lest My wrath come upon you: and he on whom My wrath cometh, he is lost indeed. 81 And verily I am the Most Forgiving unto whomsoever repenteth and believeth and worketh righteously, and thereafter letteth himself remain guided. 82 ۞ "And what made you hasten from your people, O Musa (Moses)?" 83 He said: "They are close on my footsteps, and I hastened to You, O my Lord, that You might be pleased." 84 The Lord said, "We tested your people after you left them and the Samiri made them go astray." 85 Then Moses returned very angry and sorrowful to his people, saying, 'My people, did your Lord not promise a fair promise to you? Did the time of the covenant seem so long to you, or did you desire that anger should alight on you from your Lord, so that you failed in your tryst with me?' 86 'We have not failed in our tryst with thee,' they said, 'of our volition; but we were loaded with fardels, even the ornaments of the people, and we cast them, as the Samaritan also threw them, into the fire.' 87 "Then he brought out (of the fire) before the (people) the image of a calf: It seemed to low: so they said: This is your god, and the god of Moses, but (Moses) has forgotten!" 88 Did they not see that it could not return to them any speech and that it did not possess for them any harm or benefit? 89
