He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 uplifted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and herbage 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
