Aaron had already, before this said to them: "O my people! ye are being tested in this: for verily your Lord is (Allah) Most Gracious; so follow me and obey my command." 90 They said "So long as Moses does not come back we are not going to give it up, and we will remain devoted to it." 91 [Musa (Moses)] said: "O Harun (Aaron)! What stopped you when you saw them going astray; 92 from following my way? Have you disobeyed my command?" 93 'Son of my mother,' Aaron said, 'take me not by the beard, or the head! I was fearful that thou wouldst say, "Thou hast divided the Children of Israel, and thou hast not observed my word." 94 Said [Moses]: "What, then, didst thou have in view, O Samaritan?" 95 He said: l saw that which they saw not; so I seized a handful from the footstep of the messenger, and then cast it; thus my soul embellished the affair to me. 96 (Moses) said: "Go hence! All your life you are (cursed) to say: 'Do not touch me; and a threat hangs over you which you will not be able to escape. Look at your god to whom you are so attached: We shall verily burn it, and disperse its ashes into the sea. 97 Your God is only the One God; there is no god, but He alone who in His knowledge embraces everything.' 98 Thus, [O Muhammad], We relate to you from the news of what has preceded. And We have certainly given you from Us the Qur'an. 99 Whosoever turnoth away therefrom - verily they shall bear on the Day of Judgment a burthen, 100 They will abide in this (state): and grievous will the burden be to them on that Day,- 101 The Day whereon the trumpet will be blown into, and We shall gather the culprits on that Day blear-eyed, 102 They will murmur among themselves, "You remained not but ten [days in the world]." 103 We know very well what they will say, when the best among them in knowledge and wisdom will say: "You stayed no longer than a day!" 104
