The notables among his people who had refused to believe and who denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and those whom We had endowed with ease and comfort in this life, cried out: "This is no other than a mortal like yourselves who eats what you eat and drinks what you drink. 33 "If ye obey a man like yourselves, behold, it is certain ye will be lost. 34 Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones that you will be brought forth [once more]? 35 ۞ Far-fetched, far-fetched indeed is what you are promised! 36 There is only the life of this world: We die and we live: there is no rising from the dead for us. 37 He is naught but a man who has forged against God a lie, and we will not believe him.' 38 He said: My Lord! Help me because they deny me. 39 [And God] would say: "After a little while they will surely be smitten with remorse!" 40 So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people. 41 After them We produced other generations 42 No nation can anticipate their term, nor can they delay it. 43 We then sent our Noble Messengers, one after another; whenever a nation’s Noble Messenger came to it they denied him, We therefore united the succeeding with the old, and made them history; so far removed be the people who do not believe! 44 Thereafter We sent Musa and his brother Harun with Our signs and an authority manifest. 45 To Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were arrogant and were a haughty people. 46 'What' they said, 'are we to believe in two mortals like us, whose nation are our worshipers' 47 Then they accused them of lies, and joined the company of those who were destroyed. 48 And indeed We gave Moosa the Book, that they may attain guidance. 49 and We made Mary's son, and his mother, to be a sign, and gave them refuge upon a height, where was a hollow and a spring: 50
