Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the daybreak, 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
