But the leaders of his people who denied the truth and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, because We had granted them ease and plenty in their worldly life, said, "This is only a human being like yourselves, he eats what you eat, and drinks what you drink, 33 And were ye to obey a human being like you, ye are forthwith to be losers. 34 Does he promise you that, after you have died and become [mere] dust and bones, you shall be brought forth [to a new life]? 35 ۞ Far-fetched, far-fetched indeed is what you are promised! 36 "There is nothing but our life in this world! We shall die and we live! But we shall never be raised up again! 37 He is just a man who invents a lie about God; we cannot believe in him." 38 He said: "O my Lord! Help me because they deny me." 39 He answered: "A short while, and they shall be repenting." 40 So they were rightly seized by a mighty blast; and We turned them into mouldy rubbish: A good riddance of the wicked people! 41 After them We produced other generations 42 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 43 And We sent forth Our apostles, one after another: [and] every time their apostle came to a community, they gave him the lie: and so We caused them to follow one another [into the grave,] and let them become [mere] tales: and so - away with the folk who would not believe! 44 Then We sent Musa and his brother Haroun, with Our communications and a clear authority, 45 to the Pharaoh and his nobles. But they behaved proudly and thought themselves superior people. 46 So they said: shall we believe in two human beings like unto us, while their nation are to us slaves? 47 So they rejected them both, and became those who were destroyed. 48 And We verily gave Moses the Scripture, that haply they might go aright. 49 And We made the son of Maryam (Mary) and his mother as a sign, And We gave them refuge on high ground, a place of rest, security and flowing streams. 50
