The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever? 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 gardens, and springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
