The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
