The Moon (Al-Qamar)
55 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Comet (Al-Taareq) before S (Saad)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split. 1 But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" 2 And they belied, and they followed their lusts; and every affair cometh to a final goal. 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 with down-cast eyes they shall go forth from their graves, as though they were scattered locusts. 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled. 9 Then he supplicated to his Lord, (saying): 'I am overcome, help me' 10 We opened the gates of the sky and water started to pour down. 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 And We bore him upon a well-planked vessel well-caulked 13 That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected. 14 And We left it as a sign. Is there anyone who will be warned? 15 Then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 16 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 We sent a raging wind against them on a day of continuous calamity. 19 Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms. 20 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22

Notes and Instructions
When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
