(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 for the suffering [predicted by Salih,] befell them [then and there]. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
