Elucidated (Fussilat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 A revelation from Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful. 2 A Scripture whereof the verses are expounded, a Lecture in Arabic for people who have knowledge, 3 Giving glad tidings and heralding warning; so most of them turned away, therefore they cannot listen (to the truth). 4 They say: "Our hearts are under veils, (concealed) from that to which thou dost invite us, and in our ears is a deafness, and between us and thee is a screen: so do thou (what thou wilt); for us, we shall do (what we will!)" 5 Say thou, [O Prophet:] "I am but a mortal like you. It has been revealed to me that your God is the One God: go, then, straight towards Him and seek His forgiveness!" And woe unto those who ascribe divinity to aught beside Him, 6 Those who do not give zakah, and in the Hereafter they are disbelievers. 7 (As for) those who believe and do good, they shall surely have a reward never to be cut off. 8
