If affliction befalls you, it is what your own hands have earned, but He pardons a lot. 30 You cannot thwart Him on the earth, and have no friend or helper apart from Him. 31 And of His signs are the ships in the sea like landmarks. 32 He could stop the wind if He pleased, then they would be stranded on its surface. Surely there are signs in this for every one who perseveres and is grateful. 33 Or He could wreck them for what they have done; yet there is much that He pardons. 34 He knows all those who dispute His revelations. They will find no way to escape from (His torment). 35 So whatsoever things are vouchsafed unto you are but a passing enjoyment for the life of the world, and that which is with Allah, better and more lasting, is for those who believe and in their Lord put their trust. 36 And those who avoid the heinous sins and indecencies and when they are angry forgive, 37 Who obey the commands of their Lord and fulfil their devotional obligations, whose affairs are settled by mutual consultation, who spend of what We have given them, 38 and who, when insolence visits them, do help themselves -- 39 And the retribution for an evil act is an evil one like it, but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is [due] from Allah. Indeed, He does not like wrongdoers. 40 Those who defend themselves after they have been wronged cannot be held blameworthy, 41 blame falls only on those who wrong men and transgress on this earth without justification, such will have a painful punishment, 42 Surely, he who bears patiently and forgives indeed that is true constancy. 43
