And whatever calamity befalls you, is because of what your hands have earned – and there is a great deal He pardons! 30 You are not able to frustrate Him in the earth; and, apart from God, you have neither protector nor helper. 31 And of His Signs are the ships that sail in the sea like mountains. 32 if He willed, He could bring the wind to a standstill and they would lie motionless on the surface of the sea, truly there are signs in this for anyone who is steadfast and grateful, 33 or He could have destroyed them as punishment for the human being's deeds. However, God pardons many sins. 34 Let those who dispute Our signs know that there is no way of escape for them. 35 Whatsoever you have been given is only this life's merchandise; but what is with God is better and more lasting for those who believe and place their trust in their Lord, 36 And those who avoid the greater sins, and Al-Fawahish (illegal sexual intercourse, etc.), and when they are angry, they forgive 37 Who obey the commands of their Lord and fulfil their devotional obligations, whose affairs are settled by mutual consultation, who spend of what We have given them, 38 And those who, when great wrong afflicts them, defend themselves. 39 And the retribution for an evil act is an evil one like it, but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is [due] from Allah. Indeed, He does not like wrongdoers. 40 Those who defend themselves after they have been wronged cannot be held blameworthy, 41 blame falls only on those who wrong men and transgress on this earth without justification, such will have a painful punishment, 42 But withal, if one is patient in adversity and forgives - this, behold, is indeed something to set one's heart upon! 43
