But as for anyone who chooses to remain blind to the remembrance of the Most Gracious, to him We assign an [enduring] evil impulse, to become his other self: 36 and they bar them from the Way, though they themselves think that they are guided. 37 To the extent that when the disbeliever will be brought to Us, he will say to his devil, “Alas – if only there was the distance* of east and west, between you and me!” – so what an evil companion** he is! (* Had I not listened to you. **They will be bound together in chains.) 38 And it will profit you not today, because ye have done wrong, that ye are in the torment sharers. 39 Then will you make the deaf hear, [O Muhammad], or guide the blind or he who is in clear error? 40 And if We take thee away, We shall surely take vengeance on them. 41 or We show you a part of that which We have promised them, for indeed We have power over them. 42 So hold thou fast to the Revelation sent down to thee; verily thou art on a Straight Way. 43 it is certainly a reminder to you and to your people and you will soon be called to account. 44 And ask (O Muhammad SAW) those of Our Messengers whom We sent before you: "Did We ever appoint aliha (gods) to be worshipped besides the Most Beneficent (Allah)?" 45
