Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 The command that We have been sending 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 And leave the sea behind you as calm as ever. Surely they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.” 24 How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
