The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
