The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 then came down close 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
